Acting as if... by John Francis - CGA Qualified Coach

1. "If I was supremely confident of hitting a good shot how would I act?"…Answer, “I would take my time, move into the shot positively, have a strong confident posture and my breathing would be relaxed and full”

2. Now simply focus on acting out that character you have described, you may be amazed what a difference it makes. We simply call this “Acting as if…”

3. Changing your physiology can have a massively positive impact not just on your golf but also in life generally. You must understand we “do “ an emotion meaning you can’t feel nervous without acting nervous, that of course means if you act confidently you will feel confident. Just think about a top player when they are confident and in full flow, their shoulders are back, chest out, eyes forward and breathing full. When I watch Tiger Woods making a charge it looks like his chest leads and the rest of his body follows, a good key to remember.

While at first this may feel a little false or that you are acting, remember whatever you feel now is simply an act, but just one you have got used to. Practise good physiology and acting like a winner all the time and it will soon feel natural, plus it’s a lot more fun!!
