As a youngster Louis Oosthuizen had a poster above his bed reading “The Greatest Golfer the World has Ever Seen!” he wanted it to be the first thing he saw every morning. This is a brilliant example of how to program your mind to help you manifest the things you desire. Winning The Open Championship at St Andrews this year Louis heard the announcement at the prize giving… “Champion Golfer of The Year!” It must give him goosebumps when he thinks about that poster and how his dreams are coming true!

To a large degree ”we become what we think about”, this use of affirmations is a great tool. What is it you would like to achieve in your life? more money? better health? better relationships? Whatever it is if you choose everyday to repeat a message to yourself that will support this outcome you have far greater chance of it showing up in the real world! We have all had the experience of dropping something and saying “I knew that would happen” because we had been saying “I don’t want to drop this” and suddenly crash! So now make sure you choose affirmations about what you DO want NOT what you don’t want! simple yes, but It Just Works!

South African Tim Clark winner of this years Players Championship at Sawgrass had this to say about his ‘shot routine’… “The brain can only compute so much, so forget all those mechanical thoughts when you address a ball, instead, all i do is look at the flag and then visualise a line back to the ball. Then i focus on where i want the ball to go. That’s it. If i have even one swing thought, it takes away from target thinking”.

Tim currently the 27th best player in The World is renowned as one of the most consistent ball strikers on The PGA Tour, he is currently 4th in driving Accuracy!

my thoughts on Tim’s quote…

Different approaches are required at different times, there is no one answer for all. however it is interesting to hear this type of comment as few players articulate their thought process with this clarity yet it is my hunch many more do this and don’t even realise. After all its how kids just staring out do it until often it is coached out of them! Try Tim’s approach on the practise ground it might just help you play more natural golf!
